The Southern League is an amateur status league competition run by Southern Football and Mainland Football for Association football clubs located in the South Island of New Zealand. It is at the second level of New Zealand Football behind the national association based New Zealand National League, and the highest level of club based football available to teams within the region.

Southern League este a doua ligă ca importanță din Noua Zeelandă, sub NZ Football Championship. Liga este alcătuită din 12 echipe care joacă un sezon regulat de 22 de meciuri, urmat de o serie de play-off pentru a determina campioana și echipele retrogradate.

Campionatul are loc în timpul iernii, din aprilie până în septembrie. Echipele joacă de obicei un meci pe săptămână, cu excepția perioadelor de sărbători.

Cele mai de succes echipe din Southern League sunt Canterbury United, care a câștigat campionatul de 8 ori, și Coastal Spirit, care a câștigat de 4 ori.
